An architectural marvel right here in Auckland and hidden in plain sight, you need to get into the building and during opening hours to walk into the former inner courtyard. The large wooden structure floating above is the museum’s seminar and event rooms, crowned with the top floor event hall that features the most amazing panoramic views of the city.

🏆 Family Action Verdict

The interactive floor projections make the atrium a hit with young children, and older kids engage well with the Māori taonga and multicultural galleries on the upper floors.

There is a lot to see in the Museum. It shows that New Zealand is really a great example of an integrated and multicultural society throughout the history. There are plenty of free street parking spots nearby with 120 min and 180 min allowance. However, it still may not be long enough for the visit.

This museum has a nice combination of Maori culture, natural history and war memorials. Every floor has its own theme with new and interesting stories. As a tourist I preferred the parts about Maori and Pacific island culture, but the other floors are also very impressive.
