Hamilton Zoo Review — where toddlers and cheetahs both run on pure energy 🐾 The zoo is designed with easy walking paths, perfect for a relaxed wander. Even my 3- and 5-year-olds managed the walk like seasoned explorers (with only minimal snack bribes involved). If you’re lucky, you might see a peacock or a pūkeko casually strolling outside the fences like they own the place — which, honestly, they probably do. Every visit comes with a new “main character.” Once we spotted a red panda perched in a tree like a hidden illustration in a storybook — calm, fluffy, and clearly more emotionally balanced than the rest of us 🕊️ “Inner peace🐼🎋🧘🧘‍♀️🧘‍♂️” The cheetahs completely stole the show. They rolled over with their bellies up, made tiny cat-like sounds, and basically acted like oversized house cats who forgot their gym membership 🐆🐆🐆🐆🐆 It was extremely difficult to move on. If you time it right (morning seems best), you can catch the giraffe feeding and see them up close — long lashes, long necks, and better table manners than my kids 🌴🦒 The deer also looked very interested in visitors, possibly judging our snack choices 🛷🦌🦌 Already curious which animal will be our highlight next time. Highly recommended for families with young kids — equal parts fresh air, wonder, and “just five more minutes” negotiations.💓💗💓💗👍

🏆 Family Action Verdict

Toddlers and young children manage the full circuit comfortably on the flat paths. Families highlight the keeper talks as particularly engaging — feeding times are announced over the PA so visitors can head over. The big cats and giraffe enclosures draw consistent praise, and the walk-through aviary is frequently named as an unexpected favourite.

Hamilton Zoo is a fantastic place for families and animal lovers. The enclosures are spacious and thoughtfully designed, giving the animals room to move and making the experience feel natural. The highlights include the big cats, giraffes, rhinos, and the incredible aviary walk-through. The staff are knowledgeable, friendly, and clearly passionate about conservation. Keeper talks are engaging and give you a deeper understanding of the animals and the zoo’s work. The grounds are well-kept, easy to walk, and there are plenty of shaded areas and picnic spots to relax. It’s not overcrowded like some larger zoos, which makes the visit more enjoyable and peaceful. A great balance of education, conservation, and family fun—definitely worth a visit if you’re in Hamilton.

Had a wonderful day at Hamilton Zoo! The zoo is clean, spacious, and well maintained, with beautifully designed enclosures and clear walking paths. Staff were friendly, and the educational signs were great, especially for kids. A perfect place for a relaxed family outing. Highly recommended!

The zoo was a great experience, I loved the touch of farm animals too! I didn't expect for it to be as big as it was. I also like the fact that the zoo announces what animals the zoo keepers are feeding. I have never had that experience at a zoo before, so thank you!
