Had a great experience today at the Antarctic center. It was part of a cruise excursion, so unfortunately our time was limited. Would definitely want to come back and delve deeper into it. Great variety of experiences to partake. I learned a lot, and would love to learn more! Great place for families with kids, there's lots of hands on activities. Cindy was our guide, and she was excellent! You felt her excitement about the topic, especially all the inside gossip about the cutie penguins. 😍
🏆 Family Action Verdict
A reviewer with a twelve and fifteen year old described three hours flying past across penguins, the Hägglunds, 4D movie, and storm room. Another with a nine-year-old praised the VIP backstage penguin pass — staff described as amazing and enthusiastic about individual penguin personalities. “Wonderful place to bring family and friends! We had an (arctic) blast last time we went, had a lot to do and see with all the activities and shows althroughout. Please note though that rides do have a height requirement which they are a bit strict with for safety reasons. The rest are pretty accessible to the young and young at heart. A bit pricey but you doget a lot of enjoyment and knowledge out of it.”

“Amazing experience! Very informative and lots of fun. The ride in the antartic vehicle was wonderful. 4D movie, lots of exhibitions, huskies you can pet, rescued penguins and winter storm simulator. Not to miss if you’re in Christchurch.”

“We decided to visit here before flying out of Christchurch. We got 2 entries including a ride on their Hägglunds. We enjoyed the brief video explaining the Antarctic treaty and the history of exploring the vast continent. Got to meet and pet some friendly huskies. The ride on the Hägglund was a fun however a short experience over their purposely built off road track. It lasts around 7 minutes. We then braced the Antarctic storm simulator where wind chill gets down to -18°C. After the simulator we got to experience their 4D cinema, we watched a 10 minute movie based on the journey to Antarctica. We got to see little blue penguins who are being cared for here which was an incredible experience to watch. We did think the price of the ticket was steep therefore more should be included in the exhibition.”
