1 / 2Lido Cinema Hamilton
📍 Hamilton Central, Waikato
A maintained 1920s art deco cinema in central Hamilton with plush seating, period detailing and a café-bar serving drinks and cabinet food. Programme leans toward independent, arthouse and quality mainstream releases.
I never thought I would feel slightly underdressed in a cinema but I did. The place was so divine I felt I had to up my game and come in my best circa 40-50-60’s outfit. Comfortable and classy is not a set of words you would see together often but it definitely captures the essence of this place. So the next time you drop in, make it special and wear something special.
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for families with older children and teenagers who'll appreciate the art deco interior as an experience in itself. The film selection skews adult and arthouse — check the programme before you go. Younger children accustomed to multiplex combos and fresh popcorn may find the food offer sparse.

“1920s Luxe style cinema. Great for adults- good selection of drinks, food, cabinet/cafe style. Not so good for kids though, popcorn was pre-packaged and a bit stale. No combos on offer for food like other chain cinemas. Make this your date night spot!”

“I’ve always enjoyed the lido . Free parking . A lovely theatre to walk into . Always room for improvement. As it’s an adult venue which I feel gives its value . Reminds of the one in Melbourne packed with age above 40 . Something special that is .”
