📍 Panmure, Auckland
Panmure Historical Society & Stone Cottage Museum occupies a heritage cottage with exhibits on local history. Volunteers — sometimes in period costume — share stories from generations of local families. Well-kept grounds, plentiful parking.
What a lovely little piece of history in the middle of Panmure. New Zealand should ensure historic places like this are preserved and maintained and in this case they do. On this note bring back the Panmure sign from the demolished roundabout.
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Reviewers consistently praise the volunteers for bringing the collection to life — knowledgeable, welcoming, and passionate about local history. The grounds offer a peaceful, picturesque setting that pairs well with other Panmure activities. The heritage cottage itself is the centrepiece and worth seeing from outside.

“The detail and craftsmanship is exceptional. A beautifully presented piece of local history with contributions from local families that have called Panmure home for many generations. It is only open one Sunday of every month which is quite sad as it smells quite strongly of damp and mildew. Absolutely worthy of your time. A picturesque and peaceful spot to let the world fall away for a little while.”
