I was particularly impressed by their strong focus on contemporary Māori and Pacific art and culture, which offers such rich and meaningful insights. The space itself is welcoming and thoughtfully designed, providing a peaceful environment to wander and absorb the art. The serene Japanese Garden is a lovely bonus, offering a tranquil spot for reflection. With rotating exhibitions, there is always something new and inspiring to discover. It's a fantastic resource for the community and well worth the drive for anyone visiting the Wellington region. Highly recommended for a truly enriching experience!”

“We were quite astounded at the small museum - Whittakers dislay and interactive displays within. The art was imaginative throughout - Samoan community display and videos showed much of the past. The childrens area bright and colourful. Then we happened upon the Māori students art exhibition, amazing to think we have talented students presenting pieces that made you stand and stare in awe of the structure of it. Each piece from the next generation - amazing!!! We had to vote and we struggled, there was way too many to choose from.”

“I took a group of senior citizens here recently and had the most enjoyable experience. The staff were very supportive and one of them, without us asking, took the time to walk around with us to give us a tour and to explain the exhibition to us. It was so kind and thoughtful.
