1 / 3Rona Bay Beach
📍 Eastbourne, Wellington
Rona Bay is a sand-and-pebble beach in Eastbourne with a large adjacent park, playground, changing facilities, BBQ area, toilets, and free parking. A gate between the park and the beach keeps toddlers contained. Dog-friendly with clear signage.
Beautiful calm beach for swimming in summer. Dog friendly beach. Parking and toilet available. I think you can get here in a bus too. Watch sunset and sunrise and ferries go by. Some people were also casting fishing from roadside and wharf. There is a 4 Square supermarket and restaurants nearby too. Worth visiting.
🏆 Family Action Verdict
The gate between park and beach is the feature parents call out most — it solves the problem of toddlers wandering toward the water unattended and makes supervising young children much more manageable. The field is large enough to fit multiple groups kicking footballs or throwing frisbees at the same time. One reviewer describes it as 'best easy beach walk in the region' for safe walking, children's play areas, and café access all in one place.

“Great day at the field, park and beach. Plenty to do for the kids at the park, the field caters for multiple groups wanting to kick a ball or throw a frisbee, and a gate to go on the beach is helpful when you don't want toddlers to wander towards the water unattended. Wind will be a factor whether you'll be having fun or not as it is more exposed than day's bay, but this spot is much much quieter which is perfect.”

“Just a little bit down from Days Bay. Not as crowded as other beaches nearby, and there is a playground and a bbq and toilets there too. Not a sandy beach, but mostly rocks and shells. Great views though. Heaps of people come here to kayak and jet ski.”

Overview
Rona Bay sits on Marine Parade in Eastbourne, edged by a large park with playground equipment, a grassed field, BBQ area, changing facilities, and free parking. The beach itself is pebble and shell rather than sand, with calm summer swimming conditions and views of ferries crossing the harbour. A gate between the park and the beach allows families to control access for young children. The dog-friendly policy is clearly signposted. Kayaking and jet skiing are common on the water. A Four Square and nearby cafés provide food and drink options within easy reach.
