“My friends and I went down impromptu to visit after noticing there’s a direct ~1h bus ride from Christchurch Central City. Although it’s about a 20min walk from the bus stop to the farm, the weather was absolutely lovely and the walk was peaceful and enjoyable. We were warmly greeted by Sheryl, and even though we didn’t stay at the accommodation and only joined the farm tour, it was clear how beautifully decorated and well cared for the place is. The garden leading up to the reception was especially captivating. The 1h tour was done in a small group of just 8 people. Kit started by sharing his journey to becoming an alpaca farm owner, along with safety instructions (how alpacas may spit or kick, but are generally very docile). I really appreciated this introduction as the tour felt personal and unhurried, rather than a rushed one. Viewing the alpacas was definitely the highlight. Even though the alpacas were freshly sheared during our visit, they were still incredibly soft. We were able to get up close, hug them, and take plenty of photos. You can genuinely feel the love and care Kit has for the alpacas throughout the tour, and I can’t recommend this experience enough to anyone visiting Christchurch. After that, we went to the shed where Kit explained alpaca wool in detail. Kit is extremely informative, and I enjoyed every step of the tour. We then visited the shop to view alpaca wool items, followed by free and easy time with the alpacas for as long as we wanted, which was such a lovely touch. I also want to specially mention that Kit went above and beyond by offering to drive us to the bus stop after finding out our bus was arriving in 6min (otherwise the next one would have been an hour later). Thank you so much for saving us a lot of time and giving us a comfortable ride. Thank you so much for such a memorable tour. “⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ An absolutely wonderful alpaca farm experience - highly recommend! 🦙🥰 This was an impromptu plan with my friends to visit an alpaca farm, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions ever! The alpacas were super, super cute, fluffy, gentle and clearly very well cared for. The farm itself was also very clean, spacious and peaceful. What made the experience even more special was Kit, the farm owner, who personally conducted our tour. He was incredibly friendly, welcoming and genuine. He shared with us how he started the farm, some funny stories from his life, and so much interesting information about caring for alpacas, their shearing process and what goes on behind the scenes of running the farm. You can really tell that Kit and his family have a deep passion for what they do and, most importantly, for the alpacas themselves. It never felt like just a standard farm tour - it felt like we were being welcomed into something they genuinely love. And the highlight for us: Kit even carried the baby alpaca over and carefully positioned its head on our shoulders so we could get the perfect photos! 🥹🦙 Such a thoughtful touch, and definitely a moment we won’t forget. A little tip for visitors: this is also one of the most accessible alpaca farms from the CBD, only around a 20-minute drive away. You can also take Metro bus 95, which makes it quite convenient even if you don’t have a car. Kit was incredibly kind and even offered to drop us off at the bus station afterwards. We really appreciated his hospitality! Thank you, Kit, for being such a wonderful host and for giving us such a memorable experience. Definitely worth every dollar we paid! “We had such a wonderful time at Silverstream Alpaca Farm Stay & Farm Tour! From the moment we arrived, the farm had such a calming and serene atmosphere. The alpacas were absolutely adorable, incredibly fluffy, friendly and gentle. Being around them was almost therapeutic, and we got to feed them as well. A huge thank you to Kit, the owner of the farm, who was such a warm and welcoming host. He personally took us around the farm and shared so many interesting facts about his alpacas, as well as his own story of how he started the farm. It was fascinating hearing about their journey and learning that his alpacas have won numerous competitions over the years. As Kit spoke about them, you could really tell how passionate he is about what he does and how incredibly proud he is of his alpacas. One of the highlights was being able to get so up close and personal with the alpacas. We were even able to hug and cuddle them because they were so friendly and gentle! The young children in our tour group got to sit with the alpacas and have them cuddle up against them too. It was such a heartwarming and wholesome sight. The farm is also convenient to get to, being only around a 20-minute drive from the city. There is also a direct bus, making it easily for visitors. Overall, the entire experience at Silverstream Alpaca Farm was warm, peaceful and genuinely lovely. It’s a wonderful activity for people of all ages who are looking for something calming, wholesome and a little different.
