1 / 3Silverstream Alpaca Farm Stay & Farm Tour
π Kaiapoi, Canterbury
Family-owned alpaca farm near Kaiapoi with small-group guided tours led by owner Kit. Guests hand-feed and cuddle award-winning alpacas as Kit shares each animal's individual story. Farm stay accommodation available. Pram-accessible grounds.
My friends and I went down impromptu to visit after noticing thereβs a direct ~1h bus ride from Christchurch Central City. Although itβs about a 20min walk from the bus stop to the farm, the weather was absolutely lovely and the walk was peaceful and enjoyable. We were warmly greeted by Sheryl, and even though we didnβt stay at the accommodation and only joined the farm tour, it was clear how beautifully decorated and well cared for the place is. The garden leading up to the reception was especially captivating. The 1h tour was done in a small group of just 8 people. Kit started by sharing his journey to becoming an alpaca farm owner, along with safety instructions (how alpacas may spit or kick, but are generally very docile). I really appreciated this introduction as the tour felt personal and unhurried, rather than a rushed one. Viewing the alpacas was definitely the highlight. Even though the alpacas were freshly sheared during our visit, they were still incredibly soft. We were able to get up close, hug them, and take plenty of photos. You can genuinely feel the love and care Kit has for the alpacas throughout the tour, and I canβt recommend this experience enough to anyone visiting Christchurch. After that, we went to the shed where Kit explained alpaca wool in detail. Kit is extremely informative, and I enjoyed every step of the tour. We then visited the shop to view alpaca wool items, followed by free and easy time with the alpacas for as long as we wanted, which was such a lovely touch. I also want to specially mention that Kit went above and beyond by offering to drive us to the bus stop after finding out our bus was arriving in 6min (otherwise the next one would have been an hour later). Thank you so much for saving us a lot of time and giving us a comfortable ride. Thank you so much for such a memorable tour. The next time I come to Christchurch, I will definitely opt to stay at the farm stay. Thank you, Kit and Sheryl! Love from Singapore π¦ππ«Άπ»

Best for families who want a calm, personal animal experience rather than a commercial attraction. Kit's genuine passion and small group sizes mean children get unhurried time with gentle, well-loved alpacas. The farm stay option suits families wanting a full Canterbury rural overnight.

βWe visited Silverstream for the farm tour and thoroughly enjoyed Kits stories and passion for the Alpacas. You can tell they are well loved and cared for and we enjoyed spending time with them, feeding and patting. If you get the chance, make sure you visit their daughterβs cafe just down the road - Paris for the Weekend. We had some amazing tea and scones to top off a great morning on the farm!β

βWe had a wonderful experience at Silverstream Alpaca Farm. Kit was very welcoming and so informative. Their alpacas are super cute and we got to feed and cuddle them. If you visit Christchurch, make sure you take the short 20 minute drive to visit these gorgeous creatures. I would give 6 stars if I could.β
