1 / 3Te Manawa Museum
π Palmerston North Central, Manawatu-Wanganui
Free admission museum in Palmerston North with interactive history, art, and science exhibits. Dedicated play spaces for toddlers and young children, with rotating exhibitions and the Rugby Museum upstairs.
This place is absolutely fantastic! One of my favorite features is the playground, which is filled with colorful equipment and fun structures. However, it's a bit disappointing that it's designed specifically for younger childrenβif I could, I would be playing in the dark room and building a brick wall right now! I understand the need for age restrictions to keep the little ones safe and happy, but it still feels a bit limiting. Despite that, the overall atmosphere of the area is vibrant and welcoming, making it a wonderful spot to visit and enjoy the surroundings.
π Family Action Verdict
One of Palmerston North's standout free attractions. Locals describe it as making them seriously consider moving back to the city for the quality of life it represents. The interactive play spaces for toddlers are the main drawcard for young families.

βTe Manawa Museum is a really cool place to check out in Palmerston North. Thereβs a mix of history, art, and interactive exhibits, so it doesnβt feel boring or old-school. Itβs great for kids, teens, and adults, and you can actually learn stuff while still having fun. The layout is easy to walk through and the exhibitions change, so thereβs usually something new to see. Definitely worth a visit, especially since itβs a local gem.β

βWhat an incredible free attraction in our great wee city - awesome for those with toddlers and young kids to get busy and have endless fun on a rainy day. This and a few other council initiatives (the amazing parks for one) have me seriously considering making the move back to good ol palmy!β

βPretty good for free admission, although they would appreciate your support with donations. The Rugby Museum is in the same building upstairs, but is $15 for entry. They have some interesting exhibitions and good for all ages, but under 14 should be supervisedβ
