Te Pane o Mataaho

“This is the nature preserve area surrounding the Mangere domain. We visited here on a weekend and were surprised by the awesome views it offers along with the well maintained trail around the mountain top. It is one of many dormant volcanos in the Auckland region and has been kept very well by the city council. There is a new boardwalk and stairs installed recently which has enhanced the experience of climbing the top and coming down from it. We parked at the Onehunga Sports club parking, although some cars were also parked on the yellow broken line on the side of the path as parking spaces are very limited. The walk inside the domain encircles the mountain crater and offer a wide range of views. Rangitoto island, Auckland city skyline and Waitakere ranges; all can be viewed from here easily, along with sunrises and sunsets. A highly recommended place for a couple of hours walk and very easily accessible from the southwestern motorway.”

“Absolutely adore how much the maunga has had a beautiful overhaul. From the walkways, the Maori Pa look around the grounds - so appealing with the picturesque setting all over. Playground has great features for all ages along with a bball & skate park area. Parking is below where the local hall is. Its been a while since I was last in my childhood area yet will be here as much as I can for my grandchild to experience & enjoy🫶🏽💞 my mobile was flat to capture this gem.”
