1 / 3Tekapo Springs & Stargazing
📍 Lake Tekapo, Canterbury
A relaxed all-day out for families of any age, with clean, warm hot pools, a genuinely good cafe, and a stargazing tour worth timing for a clear night.
We visited the hot pools on a weekday and it was amazing. Friendly staff, easy to find where you are going with the maps too. You need to bring your own towel unless you would like to hire one. If this could be added to the email or website that would be great knowledge! Lovely clean pools, warm and relaxing. We had the Swedish massage from the day spa- Melissa was so friendly and welcoming. She made the experience very relaxing. The cafe menu was huge! We went for the quesadillas and springs stack, really yummy food. Didn’t take long at all and the beers were great. Would recommend for any age.
🏆 Family Action Verdict
This is a lovely relaxed day out for families of any age, especially if you build in time for the hot pools and a proper cafe lunch. The clear-night stargazing tour with a good guide is a real highlight if you can time it, and the pools stay clean and warm even when it fills up. Just know it can get busy, so going early or on a weekday pays off.

“Great pools, clean, clear, warm! Lovy back neck and shoulder massage and very impressed with lunch. Ample serving and very tasty. Plenty of parking. Small shop on site to buy swim Wear, souvenirs, gifts. There's robes and towels to hire. Great day out. We were lucky, it was not busy at all”

“We loved this as the it was so needed after our travels. Can get a bit busy but there is more than enough space. Would be nice if you could buy a little snack whilst in there but understand why not. Tickets are for all day use so no need to worry about timings”

Overview
Buy a ticket and the hot pools are yours all day, which is exactly the kind of unhurried you want with kids in tow. Parents rave about how clean and warm the water stays even when it fills up, and the cafe patties get a special mention for a lunch that actually feels like a treat. If you can time a clear night, the stargazing tour with a good guide like Hayden is the real drawcard. Go early or on a weekday, since it gets busy.
