1 / 3Westburn Reserve Playground
📍 Burnside, Canterbury
Christchurch park featuring a dedicated mini road network with intersections, a one-lane bridge and a level crossing for children practising cycling and road rules. Bring bikes, scooters or skates.
Westburn Reserve and Kids Bike Park is a great park for kids! I highly recommend this park for parents that are struggling for ideas of what to do during the weekends. I bought my niece and nephew here after finding it on the city council website. This park/reserve features a fun play ground with a big slide and see saw set as well as a bike park which has a one lane bridge and railway crossing (both are fake and completely safe). This reserve also has public toilets onsite and a picnic table for families.
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Bring bikes — the mini road network is what sets this park apart. Children who can ride independently will have the most out of it, and it is one of the few Christchurch spots where teaching road rules happens naturally through play.

“I have witnessed many children learn how to ride their bikes there. Great learning roads. Only thing is you sometimes get adults on E scooters that aren't exactly behaving kids friendly on the roads.”

Overview
The centrepiece of Westburn Reserve is a sealed mini road network designed for children to ride bikes, scooters and skateboards while learning real road rules. The network includes intersections, a one-lane bridge and a simulated railway crossing. A playground with standard equipment sits alongside. Public toilets and picnic tables on site. Pram-friendly access throughout.
