Family Action App — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 5 July 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how the Family Action mobile app ("the app", "we", "us") handles your information. The app is operated by Family Action Pty Ltd (Melbourne, Australia), which runs the Family Action family-activities directory across Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and the United Arab Emirates.

We have built the app to collect as little as possible. We do not require an account, we do not ask for your name or email, and we do not run advertising. The only usage information we collect is anonymous — it tells us which features and venues are popular so we can improve the app, and is never tied to who you are (see section 1d).

1. What the app collects

a. Your location (only with your permission) When you open a category to see venues "near you", the app asks your device for your current location and sends those coordinates to our servers to find nearby venues. We use your location only at the moment you make that request, to return results. We do not build a profile of your movements and we do not store your location in a database. Your coordinates may appear transiently in standard server request logs (kept short-term for security and reliability) and are not used for any other purpose.

You can browse categories without granting location; you simply won't get the "near me" results until you do. You can grant or revoke location access at any time in your device settings.

b. Your selected country The app remembers which country directory you chose (for example Australia or the United Kingdom). This preference is stored only on your device and is never sent to us as personal information.

c. Photos you choose to submit (optional) The app lets you contribute a photo of a venue using the "Add a photo" button. This is entirely optional and happens only when you tap that button and take or choose a picture. When you submit a photo, the following is sent to us:

Please only submit photos you have the right to share, and do not submit photos that identify other people — especially children — without their consent.

d. Anonymous usage analytics To understand which parts of the app and which venues families find useful — and to fix what isn't — we record anonymous, aggregate usage events: for example which screens you open, which venues you view, and when you tap buttons like Directions, Website or Call. These events are tagged with a random identifier generated on your device the first time you open the app. That identifier is not your name, not an advertising ID, and not the rate-limiting identifier described above — it cannot be used to identify you, and it is cleared if you reinstall the app. We collect no personal information through analytics, we do not build a profile of you, and we never share this data with third parties or use it for advertising. It is processed only on our own systems.

2. What the app does NOT collect

3. How we use information

We use your location solely to return family-activity venues near you, and your country preference solely to show the correct country's directory. We use a photo you submit to review it and, if approved, display it on the relevant venue; any photo-credit name you add to illustrate it; any embedded photo GPS to help our reviewers confirm the photo matches the venue; the anonymous device identifier only to rate-limit submissions; and the anonymous usage analytics (section 1d) only in aggregate, to see which features and venues are popular so we can improve the app. That's it.

4. Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for their own purposes. The app's requests are served by our own infrastructure and hosting providers (for example our cloud hosting and content-delivery providers), who process requests on our behalf as service providers and are not permitted to use your data for their own purposes.

When you submit a photo and it is approved, the photo — and any photo-credit name you chose to add — is published on the venue's page and visible to other users of the app. That publication is something you initiate by submitting; it is not us sharing your data with third parties for their own purposes.

5. Data transfer and security

The app communicates with our servers over encrypted connections (HTTPS) only. Because Family Action operates in multiple countries, your request may be processed on infrastructure outside your country of residence; in all cases the same protections in this policy apply.

6. Children's privacy

The app is intended for use by parents, guardians and other adults planning family activities. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

7. Data retention and your choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information (for example under the Australian Privacy Act, the EU/UK GDPR, or the California Consumer Privacy Act). Because we do not hold accounts or personal profiles, in most cases we simply hold nothing about you — but you are welcome to contact us with any request or question.

8. Changes to this policy

If we add features that change what we collect (for example push notifications, analytics, or accounts), we will update this policy and the app's Google Play Data Safety disclosure before that feature ships, and revise the "Last updated" date above.
