1 / 3Adventure Playground, Awapuni
đ Awapuni, Gisborne
Best for a whole morning with primary-age kids. Gisborne's main playground has nine play areas, a mini road system for bikes and scooters, a fenced under-fours corner, a duck lake and a volunteer train on fine summer weekends. Beach across the road.
Really good space to bring your kids and pets, right across the road from the beach. Just make sure your children are supervised at all times, especially around the pond, and just becareful of the main road, especially if you have young children.
đ Family Action Verdict
The one Gisborne playground worth planning a morning around: the obstacle courses and flying fox keep primary-age kids busy, bikes and scooters get the mini road, and the beach is across the road for afterwards. Toddlers get the gated road corner and a preschool swing, not much more. Keep small children away from the lake and the main road.

Overview
The Adventure Playground fills the block between Awapuni Road, Centennial Marine Drive and Stanley Road, a minute from Waikanae Beach. Nine play areas spread under big trees: swing circles and a preschool swing, roundabouts, a seesaw, two obstacle courses with monkey bars and a flying fox, plus a Liberty Swing for children with disabilities. The mini road on the Stanley Road corner has roundabouts and traffic lights, with a gated, shaded area for under-fours. A duck lake sits in the far corner.
