Best for a play and a paddle in one stop. Waikanae Beach Playground on Grey Street has separate play areas for toddlers, primary and older kids, with toilets, picnic tables, public tennis courts and parking, and the warm shallow beach steps away.
There are public tennis courts and picnic tables, with plenty of parking. The Riverside Walkway also starts at Waikanae beach. Toilets, wheelchair & pram friendly, shaded areas, the perfect spot for the whole family.

The easiest family stop in Gisborne: a playground with something for each age, toilets on hand, and the beach for the second half. Bring togs, towels and a picnic, and rackets if the kids play tennis. Few reviews so far, but nothing in them raises a concern.

Waikanae Beach Playground sits on the reserve at the end of Grey Street beside the holiday park, a minute's walk from the sand. It is split into three play areas built for toddlers, primary-age children and teenagers, with picnic tables, shaded spots, public toilets and free public tennis courts alongside. The Riverside Walkway starts here, parking is plentiful, and the city skatepark is a short walk up Grey Street. Reviews are few but uniformly positive.
