Best for a slow half-day outdoors with mixed ages. A 1.4 kilometre hedge maze most families run twice, surrounded by giant board games, stilts, sack races, a walk-in rabbit enclosure and picnic lawns on Paradise Valley Road.

🏆 Family Action Verdict

An easy, low-cost couple of hours that works for toddlers through to competitive tweens, and a good pairing with Velocity Valley next door or Paradise Valley Springs up the road. Pack a picnic and hats. It is closed midweek outside the holidays, so check the day before you drive out.

ℹ️ What to Know Before You Go

💡Closed Tuesday and Wednesday outside school holidays; open daily during them
There is little shade in the maze, so take hats, sunscreen and water
🎟️Bring a picnic; there are tables and lawns to spread out on
🚗Race the maze the second time; timing each other is half the fun

aMAZEme is a great few hours out for the family. The maze is good fun and we did it twice, challenging the kids to get to the centre fastest the second time. Make sure you bring a hat, water, sunscreen if hot as not much shade in the maze. There are lots of other activities at aMAZEme around the grounds. Snakes and Ladders, Connect Four, walking on stilts, sack races, and more. The staff were friendly engaging and area was safe, family had fun. Kids always ask to go here on the way to or from Rotorua.

"A wonderful family-friendly destination! The 1.4km hedge maze at aMAZEme is a highlight—challenging yet highly enjoyable. It was a thrill to beat my previous time on a second run through. Beyond the maze, there are plenty of outdoor games and activities that foster great engagement for all ages. The welcoming staff provided excellent service, making the visit seamless. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Rotorua in 2026!"

Overview

aMAZEme is a hedge maze and games garden on Paradise Valley Road, ten minutes from Rotorua. The maze is 1.4 kilometres of tall hedges with a centre to find, and the usual pattern is one careful lap followed by a race. Around it the lawns hold giant snakes and ladders, connect four, tug of war, stilts and sack races, a themed garden and a walk-in rabbit enclosure small children love. There are picnic tables and it is pram-friendly. Open Thursday to Monday, and daily in school holidays.
