Great place for both kids and adults. The whole experience is really nice, we went thinking to stay for max 1hour but it turned out to be much longer because we wanted to explore more and more. And the staff and the ticket counter is really nice too. Only downside is the restaurant, the food is pretty slow. For some French fries we waited almost 20 minutes almost missing the penguins’ feeding time and same happens for another table which left most of the food uneaten because the had the trip with the snow cars planned

🏆 Family Action Verdict

Families report spending well over an hour exploring, drawn between the penguin display, the immersive storm room, and the Hägglund ride. The variety across exhibits keeps different ages engaged at once, and the educational framing around real science and history gives the experience more substance than a theme park.

ℹ️ What to Know Before You Go

💡Allow a minimum of two hours — most visitors stay longer than expected
The Hägglund ride is consistently named the highlight — factor it into your visit plan
🎟️Located at the Christchurch Airport precinct — accessible by car

Amazing, go if you have two hours spare, so much here. 4D cinema, Reinactment of a cold day in Antarctica, history, penguins, restaurants, ride. Great value.

Overall, it was a good experience, but the price is pushing the limits of what it’s worth—that’s why it’s a four-star visit instead of five. At $74, I expected to walk away more impressed. The Arctic mobile ride absolutely saved it—that was the standout and the main reason it felt worth the cost. If admission were closer to $50, there’d be no hesitation. At the current price, though enjoyable, it does feel slightly underwhelming for what you get.

A fun and educational experience but definitely not worth the ticket price. There are so many incredibly-maintained and updated museums in NZ for half the price or even free. The 4D experience is 8 minutes long and is giving, “1999 off-brand Disney ride.” Of course the staff is friendly, it’s clean, and the huskies were a sweet surprise but for the steep cost I expected much more bang for our buck.
