Food was absolutely delicious!! We ordered the kimchi omelette rice & shakshuka. The meatballs in the shakshuka were the best meatballs I've ever had - tender, juicy & had a nice sweetness from the caramelised onions. The kimchi fried rice was just the right amount of spice and was so satisfying for asians travelling after a long trip in NZ :) Highly recommend stopping by to try their food!

🏆 Family Action Verdict

Rewards families wanting something beyond eggs on toast. The kimchi omelette suits adventurous kids — the spice is measured, not sharp — and the meatball shakshuka sweetness tends to win over hesitant eaters. Service moves fast during busy mornings, so a relaxed timeline helps.

ℹ️ What to Know Before You Go

💡The kimchi fried rice omelette is the most-recommended dish — spice level is mild enough for most palates
The shakshuka arrives with caramelised meatballs rather than eggs — worth knowing before ordering
🎟️The carrot cake loaf is a recurring local recommendation for something sweet to finish
🚗No WiFi on site; plan accordingly if you need connectivity

Really great vibe. Nice breakfast spot and good coffee. Seating in is great with people getting on with their work and chilled on holidays and stuff. Good place Went back for round two a day later. Just as good. Rice omelette is banging. Coffees done great again. Well done team.

Definitely recommend this restaurant! A friend recommended that we eat here before leaving Christchurch and we will definitely return next time we're in town. Food and coffee were both delicious! We've heard amazing things about the carrot cake loaf but didn't try it this time.

Our first meal in Christchurch (and all of New Zealand for that matter) took place at Child Sister. After a 16 hour travel day this place, satisfied all of our breakfast cravings. We went with a cappuccino and an Americano for starters. Both were pretty good. The Americano was piping hot so I had to let it cool down for a little bit. For food, we went with the kimchi rice and egg as well as the shakshouka. Shakshouka was overall good however I was surprised when it came out with meatballs instead of an egg, but it was still good. Out of the two, the kimchi was the winner for sure. Our only complaints was that there wasn’t any Wi-Fi available. Still, the service was lovely. Would go again. 7.3/10

Overview

Korean-fusion café in central Christchurch built around two standout dishes: a kimchi fried rice omelette with measured heat, and a gochujang shakshuka with tender, sweet-savoury meatballs. The carrot cake loaf is a local dessert favourite. Coffee is made consistently well. The interior is casual and unfussy, the team is sweet and helpful, and seating suits both families and solo workers. Free parking and pram access on site.
