Definitely a must-do when you’re in Christchurch. The tramway is such an iconic part of the city and a fantastic way to get a feel for the area, especially if it’s your first visit. We bought our tickets at the main ticket office, and the starting point was conveniently located right next to it, which made the whole process easy and stress-free. The tram runs through some of the most interesting and scenic parts of the city, passing historic buildings, gardens, shopping areas, and key landmarks, so you’re constantly seeing something new. We actually did the full circuit a few times because it’s such an enjoyable and relaxing ride, and each loop helped us notice details we missed the first time. One of the highlights was the commentary from the driver. The explanations were informative, engaging, and easy to follow, with plenty of interesting facts and local stories about Christchurch’s history and recovery. It really added depth to the experience and made the city feel more alive and meaningful. Overall, it’s a great way to explore Christchurch at a comfortable pace, whether you’re sightseeing, learning about the city, or just enjoying the ride. Highly recommended for visitors of all ages and definitely worth making time for during your stay.

β€œChristchurch Tram Embark on a romantic stroll on a vintage tram in Christchurch! πŸšƒ Strolling through the streets of Christchurch, you'll often hear the crisp "jingle" of a tram and the metallic scraping of rails as a vintage tram, full of tourists, whizzes by. Every angle is photogenic! πŸ“ Navigate to 109 Worcester Street. The tram departs from the centrally located Christchurch Tram, stopping at 18 stations. The conductor provides humorous announcements at each station. πŸ’° The fare is $40. Trams run daily from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, approximately every 10-15 minutes. The journey takes about 50 minutes, and you can hop on and off at any station.”

β€œThis tram ride, evokes a warm and relaxing feeling. The background is a vintage tram, with its wooden carriage, arched ceiling, and window decorations creating a strong sense of nostalgia. An English afternoon tea set, including black tea, sandwiches, and pastries, sits on the table, appearing refined and leisurely. The city streetscape is faintly visible outside the window, suggesting a leisurely stroll through the city, sipping tea and enjoying the scenery. The overall scene is quiet and elegant, reminiscent of travel memories. Book your restaurant tram for breakfast, lunch and dinner ASAP. It’s worth it!”

β€œWell worth the money. You buy one ticket which lasts all day so you can hop on and off. The driver dies the commentary so it varies slightly, depending on their personality. The driver and conductor swap roles during their shift, which is what we experienced. I would recommend doing a full circuit lasting 50 minutes before you decide where to alight first. We chose the Botanic Gardens.”
