1 / 3DESTINATION KAWAROA
π New Plymouth Central, Taranaki
A brand new waterfront playground in New Plymouth with water play, zip lines, nets, fortresses and a pump track. Best for kids who love climbing and getting soaked, with ocean views for the grown-ups.
The new Destination Play playground has opened and is another fantastic asset for the region. This is Stage 1 of the redevelopment of KΔwaroa Park and its features will be water play, slides, climbing frames, rock walls, hills, tunnels, bridges, a sandpit, fitness course, pump track, BBQβs, picnic areas, ocean lookout, and a new toilet block. An on-site blessing was held in March 2024 signalling the beginning of construction, and Stage 1 officially opening on 18 December 2024. That moment in history signified a milestone for all those involved in bringing Destination KΔwaroa to life, with the story still to be finished. π Family Action Verdict
If your kids love getting wet and climbing everything in sight, this is a winner - there's enough here to tire out a whole crew across water play, zip lines, sculptures, nets, and fortresses, all with a lovely sea view. Bring the scooters for the pump track and plan to stay a while, because families say it goes on forever.

βAwesome playgrounds that seem to go on forever. Water park was a hit with my boys, and so was the zip line. The scooter park would have been great if we'd brought scooters. Fantastic place to bring the kids and wear them out. Beautiful outlook over the ocean and educational pieces. Definitely coming back!β

βVisited the sea wall & amazing playground in Plymouth today, mid-south west coast, it had it all. There were large & small sculptures to climb on, spray pads, fortresses, play structures & net areas. Parents & kids will love it.β

βKids had a blast and the changing rooms were very clean! Highly recommend for kids with a great mix of challenges and func activities for them. Recommend bringing in a towel and togs for kids as they are bound to get wet!β

Overview
This new waterfront spot genuinely goes on forever, with water play, zip lines, climbing nets, sculptures and fortresses spread across the site, all backed by an ocean view. Bring togs and a towel because the water park is a magnet, and pack the scooters for the pump track. There are grassy spots for a picnic, clean changing rooms, and plenty of parking. Plan to stay a while - it's the kind of place that wears out a whole crew.
