1 / 2Lido Aquatic Centre
π West End, Manawatu-Wanganui
Lido Aquatic Centre features indoor and outdoor pools, hydroslides including a spinning vat bowl, diving boards at multiple heights, a kids' water playground, and grassed picnic areas. Change rooms and pram access on-site.
I came in, not really knowing what to expect. The inside pools were pretty big but I didnβt even go in them during my time there. Outside I was surprised to see even more pools with more interesting features like a kids playground with water features and etc. The amount of different pools at Lido park is pretty impressive. I had bought the outside waterslides ticket. The yellow one seemed pretty dangerous as it went down at a sharp angle almost vertically. I covered my eyes anytime someone went on it. But the other one with the spinning vat was a lot of fun. Because of coming on a Thursday the lines were probably shorter than usual. And I only had to wait for maybe 2-3 minutes at the top. Then there were the diving boards. Even the first one felt scary. I was then persuaded to go on the medium one. It doesnβt seem that high from below but once youβre up there, it feels like youβre jumping on a skyscraper. But I did and it was pretty fun. I went on it a few times and could not touch the bottom showing how deep the pool is. Iβm still so impressed with the people jumping from the top one. The lane pools were also pretty good. I went into the fast lane and after a hopeful start I soon started to swim like I was drowning. Overall a great time in Lido park and would definitely come again. Just a small bit is that some of the posters advertising some special events at the pool were obviously AI generated and it just looks trashy. Yes itβs easy to make them but it just looks soulless and I would much rather they take a real photo or spend a few dollars for someone to make them a more professional poster.
π Family Action Verdict

One reviewer writes: "Outside I was surprised to see even more pools with more interesting features like a kids playground with water features. βI always enjoy coming here. Cheap entry (compared to other places), but you do have to pay quite a substantial amount for hydroslide and "the bowl". Has a cool outdoor area though! Lots of picnic tables and grass areas for family.β

βAs a school holidays treat I decided to buy Pizza for the children. I was informed that the lido now charges $6 to bring in pizzas. So sad because a number of activities are already pricey here. If you're going to implement such charges surely courtesy demands that you advise patrons on your website. It seems to be another rip off for the patrons. I have always purchased from the blue penguin, but not anymore. The menu does not include pizza. The consequence of this means the 3 boxes of chips and 3 icecreams I would have purchased from your cafe will be bought when I leave the Lido. Next swim will be at Foxton Beach!β

βLove visiting the lido with my daughter! We were however a bit disappointed to see the Monster Mash wave rave on Halloween, did not have the inflatable aqua run set up & tubes were not provided and per advertising on the website. Hope to see better from the Lido next time.β
