Miramar Fairy village
📍 Maupuia, Wellington
A native bush hillside walk in Maupuia dotted with handcrafted fairy doors, miniature houses, and illustrated signboards. The slope is gentle enough for a three-year-old to run unaided. Summit opens to wide Wellington views. Free to visit.
I took the bus and got off at the stop near the Wellington signboard, then walked to the forest track. Along the hillside walk, you will see the tiny fairy houses and sign boards .. The slope is gentle and suitable even for elderly people. At the top of the small hill, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the beach and breathe in the fresh air the entire way. Such a peaceful and refreshing spot!
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for families with children aged 2 to 8 — young children forget any reluctance the moment they spot the first fairy door and run the whole way up. The summit view is a bonus that the adults appreciate. Free to visit and doable as a standalone half-hour trip.

“A lovely walk! Thought it might be a bit steep for my two (3 & 5) but, when they saw the little doors, they ran the whole way up!! Super excited to knock on the ones they could reach and investigate the little houses. What a lot of work some clever people have done!”

“Cute little fairy town, good for small kids. Went and visited during daylight but i think it will probably be nice at night as well with the lights”
