“As a lifelong Lord of the Rings fan, visiting Weta Workshop wasn't just a tour; it was a pilgrimage. From the moment we were greeted by the massive Trolls outside the "Weta Cave," I knew this was going to be special. The guided tour is an absolute must. Walking through the workshop, you aren't just looking at props; you are witnessing the birth of Middle-earth. Seeing the authentic Shards of Narsil and the terrifyingly detailed Sauron’s armor up close gave me goosebumps. The craftsmanship is unbelievable-the chainmail, the elven leaf brooches, the weight of the swords... it brings the movies to reality in a way a screen never could. A major highlight was the "Windows into Workshop" section. Seeing actual artists working on current projects made me appreciate the sheer human effort behind the magic. Our guide was clearly a fan too, sharing behind-the-scenes secrets about how they used forced perspective and miniatures (like the incredible Treebeard model!) to build Tolkien’s world. For the fans: Yes, there are "no photo" zones, but honestly, it makes you be present in the moment. Standing face-to-face with a full-scale Uruk-hai is a memory I will never forget. The Weta Cave shop afterwards is dangerous for your wallet-so many high-quality collectibles! If you love the trilogy, you cannot come to Wellington and miss this. It is the beating heart of New Zealand's film legacy.”

“Really cool experience for three people who don’t like lotr! Our tour guide Bailey was amazing, so knowledgable and passionate, could answer every question. We saw so much from so many different films, watched short videos on some of the techniques used, met a creative who works there currently, and had the chance to touch some fun stuff. Was an overall view of weta workshop, not based on a particular set of films, even though weta caves is. Would definitely recommend if you’re interested in physical effects and movie making! The tour flew by as it was so interesting! We managed to book a slot on the day, but I would recommend booking in advance as most of the slots were full.”

“The whole experience was amazing, since before the tour even started. While waiting, just checking out all the cool stuff at the store was terrific, specially the statues. About the tour, our guide Myriam was amazing! She had great energy, some awsome commentary and answered everyones questions. It was amazing to learn some of the behind the scenes secrets and getting to see some of the iconic pieces from diferent movies. We met Mark, one of the artists, who was just incredible. His talent and passion for his job is very obvious and it was great meeting him. Overall amazing time!”
