1 / 3Ōpūpū - Rotary Park
📍 Maungatapu, Bay of Plenty
Ōpūpū - Rotary Park is a waterfront reserve in Tauranga with a playground, modern public toilets, picnic tables, and a small boat ramp. The park sits at the water's edge and is free to enter.
Rotary Park is nice not only for a walk or lunch with your family but also to stay overnight in a self-contained van. To be honest, designated area for campervans is quite small and you have to park side by side (that's why I believe it wouldn't be comfortable for bigger motorhomes) but we are still very grateful we could stay here! The toilet is very nice and also you have an outside cold shower. Good to be earlier to get a spot.
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Reviewers appreciate the combination of playground, picnic tables, and clean modern toilets in one waterfront spot. The boat ramp adds an element of interest for children, and the park's position by the sea keeps the setting engaging.

“One of the best freedom campsites in Tauranga.. unfortunately, theres only 2-3 spots so better get in early. There are 2 modern and clean public toilets with an outdoor cold shower. Picnic tables and public bbq's to use. Park by the water and enjoy the sunset in one of the nicest parks in Tauranga. Thank you BOP council.😁”

“Nice park down by the sea. Has modern toilets, a playground and a small boat ramp (only any good when tide is in). Also has picnic tables and a a security camera for public safety presumably. Nice place to sit and eat fish n chips. Gate gets closed in the evenings. The shutting time depends on the season.”

“I love the place, but I feel unsecured. I saw a car with teenagers smoking weed, a car with someone with a dog without leach... Beautiful place, bathrooms, nice playground. The entrance it is hiding from the GPS. It is between the houses, not easy to find. I recommend it but don't go alone.”
