Best for a straightforward family swim in Westport. The council recreation centre has an eight-lane 25 metre pool, a warm leisure and toddler pool and a hydrotherapy pool with a ramp, with lifeguards on duty, a swim school and a gym alongside.
I went here for a week during my recent stay in Westport. This is a nifty little setup with access to a very well equipped and well run gym which also offers an excellent assortment of group classes. The centre has squash courts and a wonderful swimming pool, along with Tribe fitness classes. They also have a first class AstroTurf arena where hockey and other sports are run. The guys at the counter are amazing and they sell many supplies and snacks. The changing rooms were always immaculate during my visits and the parking lot has abundant space. Looking forward to returning back when I next go over to Westport.

A dependable pool for a Westport family: toddlers get a warm shallow pool, learners get lessons, and lap swimmers get a proper 25 metre pool with lanes. It is a swim rather than a splash park, so kids expecting slides will be disappointed; for those, Greymouth's centre is an hour and a half south.

Pulse Energy Recreation Centre on Pakington Street is Westport's council sports hub. Indoors there is an eight-lane 25 metre lap pool, a warm leisure pool with a toddler area, and a hydrotherapy pool with ramp access, all with lifeguards on duty. There is no hydroslide and no spa, which reviewers used to Greymouth's pools notice. The rest of the building holds a gym, a two-court stadium and a squash court, with an artificial hockey turf outside. Reviewers say the changing rooms are spotless.
