“A lovely little local cinema! It’s quite small - the theatre I was in had only around 20 seats - but the sofa-style seating was very comfortable and the whole place felt new, clean and well looked after. At around $15 for ticket and coffee on a weekday, I thought it was really good value. Obviously, if you’re looking for a huge screen and IMAX-style sound for a blockbuster, this probably isn’t the place. But for smaller, more artistic or interesting films, I really like the intimate atmosphere. A nice alternative to the big commercial cinemas, and I’d definitely come back.”

The staff are genuinely friendly, the food is excellent, and it’s refreshing to have a small independent cinema you can rely on, one that values experience over pure revenue like the large cinema chains. Takapuna Beachside Cinemas goes out of its way to make movie-going feel special again. With plenty of parking and easy access to Takapuna’s cafés and bars, it’s the definition of a true local cinema. “Such a great place! Wonderful location right on the heart of Takapuna, easy parking at the lot next door or local streets, comfy cinemas and friendly staff with a local flair. Easy to grab some food from the local restaurants before or after a movie, or they have a great selection of snacks and drinks at the cinema concession. Always updating the movie selection and they run great specials if you follow their Facebook page. Highly recommended.”
