The YMCA in Hamilton is a fantastic community hub that offers a wide range of services and facilities, making it one of the best places to stay active and connected in the area. Iβve had the chance to visit a few times, and each experience has been incredibly positive. The gym facilities are excellent, with a wide range of equipment that suits all levels of fitness. Whether you're looking to lift weights, use cardio machines, or take part in group fitness classes, the YMCA has it all. I personally enjoy their group classes, as theyβre always led by enthusiastic and supportive instructors who make it easy to stay motivated. From yoga to high-intensity interval training (HIIT), the variety of classes available means you can mix things up and keep your workouts interesting. Beyond fitness, the YMCA in Hamilton is great for families and people of all ages. The swimming pool is another standout feature. It's well-maintained, and I love that itβs suitable for both casual swimmers and those who want to focus on fitness. Plus, there are a variety of programs for kids, including swimming lessons, sports camps, and after-school care, making it an ideal place for families to stay active together. What really stands out to me about the YMCA is the sense of community. The staff are always friendly, welcoming, and dedicated to creating a positive environment. Whether you're there for a workout, a swim, or just to enjoy the social aspect, itβs easy to feel at home. Overall, the YMCA in Hamilton is a fantastic place to be. βBest gym experience right here. Gyms can be pretty intimidating but not the YMCA the staff and other members are super friendly. Trainers are super helpful, not standoff ish or intimidatng. Memberships include everything which is nice. The classes are really great! And they've got an awesome deal for flat situations, which is a great way to encourage those you live with and to have fun working out together. They've got a good range of equipment and a good amount of space.β

βUsed to give the Hamilton Y gym a 5 star review. Not because it had the niftiest equipment - it doesn't. Not because there was ample, easy parking - there isn't. Not even because they have the lowest fees - they don't. Even so, I would recommend it to everyone because of the sense of community. You felt like more than just a weekly fee. You felt part of something. You felt known. Now, and it really saddens me, I can't with integrity give it 5 stars. Or even recommend it. The people attending the gym are still GREAT. But the way it's now run makes you feel like either a fee or a problem.β

βI'm giving 2 stars only because the staff is great. The place itself is a 1 star. Old and not well-maintained equipment; the "cold plunge" is more like an improvised pool with room temperature water (if they do anything to make it colder than room temp, it's not working); the sauna smells like fungi and it's not hot enough; lockers are not safe at all... I could keep going, but I think it's clear enough. Yeah, it's cheaper than most places, but for like 20% more you would have access to a much better gym. Just to exemplify, I've chosen to go to Les Mills. It's usually an expensive place, but with their $100 discount this month and the student package, I'll be paying less than if I had joined the Y. I would have chosen even if I had to pay considerably more, what to say paying less?! Anyway, the Y might be interesting for some specific group, but I can't see the appeal if you're an adult student.β
