đ Ferrymead, Canterbury
Working heritage tramway at Ferrymead with restored steam, horse-drawn and electric trams that visitors actually ride. Run by knowledgeable volunteers who restore and maintain the collection themselves.
Hi I went with the Jaguar club Today what a great day,all the staff are amazing all know their stuff , from trains, planes ,trams fire engines and lots more ,they show us all around including their work shops ,and gave us a tastie lunch and some great music ,well done team I will be back. Please go and support this wonderful place.
đ Family Action Verdict
A genuine working tramway where children ride historic steam and electric vehicles rather than observe them behind glass. The volunteer guides know every bolt and rivet, and their enthusiasm is contagious.

Overview
The Tramway Historical Society operates a living collection of South Island trams and trolley buses at Ferrymead Heritage Park. Visitors board and ride the Kitson steam tram, vintage electric cars and horse trams â fully operational vehicles, not static displays. Volunteers who restore and maintain the fleet lead tours and answer questions across the adjacent workshops. Group visits can be arranged in advance with a guided experience and lunch. Pram access available.
