1 / 2Western Park Playground
📍 Freemans Bay, Auckland
Western Park Playground features a treehouse-style structure with tunnel slides, a flying fox, and separate equipment for younger children. Accessed from Beresford, Tahuna, or Smith Street with on-street parking. Toilets on site. Free entry.
This is a newer refurbished playground in the bottom part of Western Park. The access is via Beresford Street, Tahuna Street and Smith Street. There are on street parking spaces available on these streets too. We visited this playground recently after reading the recent reviews and were surprised to see the well maintained slides and swings. The treehouse style slides are a unique feature of this park and the bright colours attract kids easily. We spent a couple of hours there and the kids had a great time. Public toilets are also available on the playground. Overall well recommended.
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for children aged 2 to 10. The treehouse tunnel slides are the drawcard — well-built and exciting without intimidating younger climbers. Multiple reviewers name it their child's favourite Auckland playground. The shade canopy makes it a reliable warm-weather destination.

“Nice shaded playground with toilets available. The tunnel slides are well made and not too steep despite the height. There's also a flying fox and a smaller slide for younger kids.”

Overview
Western Park Playground occupies the lower section of Western Park, accessed from Beresford Street, Tahuna Street, or Smith Street — all with on-street parking. The centrepiece treehouse structure has tunnel slides that reviewers specifically call out as exceptionally well-engineered — not too steep, genuinely exciting. A flying fox runs alongside. Younger children have separate, age-appropriate equipment. The mature tree canopy provides natural shade across the whole site. Toilets on site.
