Windsor Reserve
📍 Devonport, Auckland
Windsor Reserve sits on Devonport's waterfront with a tree-shaded playground for toddlers through older children, beach and pier access, a shoreside walk, and Devonport's main street of cafés, galleries, and jewellery shops directly adjacent.
Excellent little reserve to take the kids for a day out. While not listed exclusively, the playground here is very nice for both bigger and smaller children, it is mostly under the coverage of trees so accompanying adults have a place to relax while kids play. There is also a library across the road and plenty to drink and eat in Devonport town. For more info see @tanwangphoto on insta.
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Turns a playground visit into a half-day outing without extra cost. Ferry arrival from the city is part of the fun, dense shade keeps parents comfortable as kids play, and the main street provides easy café options. The WWII cannon at the summit is a genuine piece of history older children find compelling.

“Magic spot in the heart of Auckland city. A pier, a beach, shorewalk, shade under ancient old trees and lots of eateries. Great library across the road. Plus the stroll through the mainstreet is just lovely. Little galleries, jewelery shops, little surprises everywhere. My favorite part of Auckland.”

“The hike wasn't too tough. The views from the top are amazing, totally worth it. They even have an old WWII cannon up there. It's a really cool piece of history. Definitely check it out if you're in the area.”
