1 / 3The Vic Devonport
📍 Devonport, Auckland
Independent Art Deco cinema built in 1912 in Devonport's seaside village. Multiple screens including a 30-seat private lounge, couch seating options, and passionate owner-operators who know their films inside out.
The words to describe this theatre is nostalgic and cute. The stairs that ascend up from the entrance have beautiful hand rails. With the foyer being very intimate that hugs all the entrances to each cinema and the concession stand. The snack options are great and the first time I’ve ever seen gluten free cones for ice cream. The prices are fair for snacks and tickets. The seats in the theatre are comfortable and spacious. The couches at the back are really nice to sit on and the cushions are a really nice addition to the aesthetics.
🏆 Family Action Verdict
There's something genuinely special about watching a film in a building that has been showing movies since 1912 — the hand-railed staircase, intimate foyer and passionate owners make every visit feel like an occasion rather than a transaction.

“The most beautiful movie theater. I watched Life in One Chord with my friend. It was an unforgettable experience. Dorathee and Philip are extremely welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable. They are both very contagiously passionate about movies. High recommended. Will definitely go back again to watch more NZ movies.”
