1 / 3Cambridge Miniature Trains (Cambridge Model Engineering Society)
π Leamington, Waikato
Best for toddlers and train-mad pre-schoolers. Miniature train rides loop Leamington Domain through a tunnel on the first and third Sunday morning of the month, with a model railway exhibition and swings alongside.
Such a friendly bunch of people spending their Sunday mornings providing the community with an awesome experience. My two year old absolutely loves going down to the park for the trains. So cheap, $10 for 6 rides which keeps him more than happy. Plus itβs always fun for the adults to join along with him. Todays highlight was getting an awesome wooden train whistle for $6.
π Family Action Verdict
Little train fans are in their element here, and it is one of the cheapest mornings out in the Waikato. Plan it as an hour or so on a running Sunday, let them ride until they are done, wander through the model railway room, then hit the swings. Check the club's Facebook page first, because rides depend on the weather and the date.

βSpent a wonderful sunny day last Sunday in this venue with my three kids. They loved riding on those miniature trains around the park. Well organized by volunteers, ticket costs $20 for 12 rides or $2 per ride. There were 3 trains running, one locomotive and two kiwi rail ones. Worth every second.β

Overview
On the first and third Sunday of each month the volunteers of the Cambridge Model Engineering Society run their miniature trains at Leamington Domain, taking passengers on laps of a track that loops the park and passes through the Lions Den Tunnel. Two or three trains usually run at once, some in KiwiRail colours, and rides are cheap enough that most kids go around several times. The old bowling club beside the track holds the society's model railway exhibition, open weekend mornings.
