Cambridge went more than twenty years without a cinema until the Tivoli opened in a restored Lake Street building in 2014. Three small air-conditioned screens seat 41 to 52 people on locally made two-seater couches with cushions, which is why families rate the comfort so highly. The programme mixes family releases with art house titles and National Theatre screenings, and the snack bar runs to proper coffee, ice cream and baked treats, with wine and beer for the grown-ups.
