Best for scooter, skate and BMX kids of any level. The Alfred Cox skatepark on Grey Street, rebuilt around 2022, has learner areas, flow bowls, street features and a pump track, with lighting for evening sessions, a block from Waikanae Beach.

A genuinely good free hour for a kid on wheels, and the pump track and learner area mean a beginner is not stuck watching the bowl riders. It is unsupervised and busy with teens after school, so younger children do better on a weekday morning with an adult close by, helmets on. The beach is a block away for afterwards.

Gisborne's skatepark sits in Alfred Cox Park on Grey Street, between the town centre and Waikanae Beach and opposite the i-SITE. First built in 2001 and redeveloped around 2022 to a modern design, it is a large concrete park with a strong transition focus: flow bowls and a halfpipe for the confident, street zones with rails and ledges, and a learner area and pump track that suit beginners on scooters and small bikes. It is free, open all hours and lit at night; parking fills on busy afternoons.
