📍 Kilbirnie, Wellington
Kilbirnie Recreation Centre houses a large indoor rink where kids learn to roller skate, scooter, and skateboard with hands-on staff instruction. Birthday party packages allow full rink hire, and the covered space works year-round regardless of Wellington weather.
We just celebrated our daughter's 8th birthday at the skating rink and it was great! Athena was awesome showing the kids (and some grown ups too) the basics of roller skating and was always rolling around helping us (I even left the rink knowing how to roll backwards 😎) Great experience, helpful staff, awesome venue. Good value for money too considering we hired the whole rink for ourselves. Totally recommended.
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Parents describe Kilbirnie Rec Centre as a hidden jewel for active families — the open rink gives children real space to develop skills on wheels, and staff take a hands-on role in teaching rather than just supervising. Birthday parties here draw standout feedback: one reviewer noted the entire group — including adults — was taught skating basics by a staff member who circled the rink alongside them throughout the session. Good value for full rink hire.

Overview
The rink at 101 Kilbirnie Crescent provides an open, unobstructed indoor surface for roller skating, scootering, and skateboarding. Staff actively teach beginner techniques to both children and adults — reviewers describe learning to skate backwards during a birthday party session. The rink can be hired exclusively for private birthdays, and equipment hire is available at the front desk. Toddler access, pram entry, and paid parking nearby make it straightforward to visit with young families. The building's covered format makes it a reliable choice on Wellington's famously blustery days.
