1 / 2Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre
π Kilbirnie, Wellington
Wellington's main public aquatic centre in Kilbirnie with separate baby, toddler, and adult pools, a 2m-deep recreation pool for jumping and diving, hydrotherapy sessions, competitive event hosting, and swim classes for children and adults.
We visited this facility around 5:30pm on Wednesday 3rd December 2025 and I canβt speak more highly of the Duty Manager at the time (unfortunately I canβt remember her name). I was with a group of 16 Year 7 & 8 students and we simply turned up (after being told by two other pools that it wasnβt possible to swim there, but to try here). They were put on the spot, but were SO accommodating. She took the time to speak with me and again with the children. They had an absolute blast - especially as they could jump/dive/manu to their hearts content in the 2m deep recreation pool. Iβm so glad the other pools dissuaded us from going to their facilities, otherwise we may have missed this absolute gem. Thank you so much!
π Family Action Verdict
The accommodation of a Year 7β8 school group who arrived without a booking β given full use of the 2m recreation pool for jumping and diving β shows how the duty management team operates. The distinct pool separation by age group makes it manageable with mixed-age children. Hydrotherapy regulars describe the centre as warm, clean, and friendly. Checking the website or calling ahead to confirm pool availability around scheduled events is worthwhile before travelling from out of the area.

βIt has a few different pools for different functions, national games are usually held in the large pool including water polo, kayak polo and so on. They also offer swim classes for kids and adults. There's a sauna and spa too. The baby pool is separated from the toddler and kids pool. Ample carpark at the back with a smaller carpark at the front entrance. It is located right next to the library.β
