McCahon House
π Titirangi, Auckland
The preserved Titirangi cottage where Colin McCahon lived and painted through the 1950s, set in native bush. Volunteer guides bring the hand-tooled interior and McCahon's early career to life with genuine depth and enthusiasm.
Absolute must to visit - guided tour by knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide fills in the blanks concerning early history of Colin McCahon - painter extraordinaire. Beautiful setting deep in the bush.
π Family Action Verdict
Best for art-curious families and older children with an interest in New Zealand history. The volunteer guide is the experience β without them it would be a small cottage; with them it becomes a vivid piece of New Zealand art history. Younger children are welcome in the bush setting.

Overview
McCahon House is the modest bush cottage in Titirangi where Colin McCahon raised his family and developed much of his early work through the 1950s. The interior preserves his hand-tooled additions and the intimate domestic scale of the period. Volunteer guides lead tours with depth and enthusiasm β visitors who arrive knowing nothing about McCahon leave having genuinely connected with his story. The native bush setting is compelling in any weather.
