1 / 2Old Avalon skate rink
π Avalon, Wellington
Low-traffic outdoor skate rink in Avalon with banked sides, a few ramps, and DIY-built obstacles. Suits young beginners. The aged concrete needs resurfacing and glass debris has been reported.
Good location with some DIY built obstacles. Not busy which is good so can actually use it. Needs resurfacing/concrete grinding but take it over an over crowded βwheeled parkβ.
π Family Action Verdict
Best for young children and beginners on bikes or scooters who want uncrowded space to build confidence. The quiet setting is its main strength. Older or experienced skaters will find the surface and obstacles limiting. Check the concrete for glass before letting children ride.

βIts getting a bit tired looking now and a reseal will probably fix it. But still good for kids and adults too to use it for safe biking and scootering too.β

βIt's hardly used now. It's location is not practical and not considered user friendly no more.β

Overview
Avalon's skate rink stays much quieter than Wellington's busier wheeled parks, giving beginners uncrowded space to practise. It has banked sides, a few ramps, and some DIY-built obstacles. Reviewers consistently note the aged concrete needs resurfacing and grinding, and shattered glass has been reported on the surface. Some find the location inconvenient, and the rink often sits unused β which is a plus for beginners wanting space.
