1 / 3Papakura Museum
📍 Papakura, Auckland
Free community museum on Level 3 of the Papakura library building, covering local settler stories, historical streetscape comparisons, kauri gum digging and genealogy records. Café and toilets on the same floor.
Great museum about the local history of Papakura. Great exhibition with old and new photos comparing the same streets; stories about first settlers etc. Even though the museum focuses on local history you learn a lot about New Zealand in general - the stories about first settlers, land conflicts with Māori native tribes etc. will have repeated themselves everywhere in the country. Highly recommend a visit. Easy and free parking inside the complex which includes a library, coffee shop amongst others. The staff at the museum was super friendly and welcoming too ❤️❤️🙏🏻.
🏆 Family Action Verdict
A free and genuinely rich local history collection with parking and a café right there — the kind of museum that rewards a leisurely visit rather than a quick pass-through.

“The displays are looking really good lately and it's surprisingly nice inside. I don't know why I was surprised but it's free to go in and it's definitely be worth a look. Next time you're in town just pop on through.”

“Attached to the library this is a lovely place to see some of the history of the Local area. There's a small cafe in the building and also easy access to toilets.”
