1 / 3Papatakohe Park
π Cambridge, Waikato
Best for mixed-age families wanting a full afternoon outdoors. Cambridge's new destination playground has a slide tower, in-ground trampoline, flying foxes, sandpit and water play in three age zones, with toilets and plenty of parking.
Wonderful playground with a wide variety of activities for all ages, plenty of options with shade, lots of parking and even the tower has safe options for the younger kids, with safety netting. Definitely worth the drive from Hamilton. We'll be back π
π Family Action Verdict
If you have kids of different ages, this is the playground to pick in the Waikato: toddlers get the sandpit, misters and the netted lower tower levels, while bigger kids get the flying fox, trampoline and the top. It is free, has toilets and covered tables, and rewards packing a picnic. Bring hats and sunscreen, because shade is scarce for now.

βA really fun park for the kids with a great variety of play areas. My kids particularly love the big sandpit, but also enjoy the water misters, flying fox, and slide tower. There are also nice toilet facilities here.β

βAmazing playground and great facilities. Has some shade but not heaps. Lots of trees planted so will gain more shade in time.β

Overview
Opened in early 2025 in the Bridleways Estate on the western edge of Cambridge, Papatakohe Park is the biggest playground in the WaipΔ district. A tall climbing tower with slides rises over an in-ground trampoline, ringed by flying foxes, swings, an accessible carousel, a big sandpit, water misters and musical play, split into zones for pre-schoolers, primary kids and older children. There is a basketball court, outdoor fitness gear, toilets, sheltered picnic tables and a large car park.
