1 / 3Parana Park
📍 Hamilton East, Waikato
Riverside park along the Waikato River in Hamilton East with modern playground, three shallow kiddie pools, War Horse memorial, war plane, and scenic river walks through manicured gardens.
A Hidden Gem in Hamilton Central! We had a fantastic family day out at Parana Park. My wife and daughter absolutely loved it! It is easily one of the best spots in the city for parents with young children. Here is why we’ll definitely be coming back: * Kids' Paradise: The playground and swings kept my daughter entertained for ages. The highlight, however, was the kiddie pool—it’s such a great feature for children to have a splash and cool off. * Beautiful Walks: While the kids played, we enjoyed the lovely walking paths. The park is nestled right along the Waikato River, and the views of the water flowing by are simply awesome and very peaceful. * History & Memorials: Beyond the nature, there is some great history here. We saw the War Horse statue, the war plane, and the moving memorial dedicated to those who served. It adds a really unique touch to the park. * Great Facilities: No stress regarding the basics—there is ample parking, drinking water and the public toilets were accessible and clean. If you have young kids and are looking for a mix of natural beauty, play, and a bit of history, I can't recommend this place enough. We loved it and will be back for sure!
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Hamilton locals call this a hidden gem — the combination of river views, water play, and the moving War Horse memorial makes it a full afternoon rather than a quick park visit.

“One of the most awesome Memorial Parks we have visited. On the eastern side of Hamilton, it's very easy to find if your a visitor. Beautiful sights and pathways alongside the Waikato River. There's so much too see here. There's an amazing children's park. Every turn or path you take is absolutely stunning. Dogs allowed. Lots of historic monuments and statues of remembrance to our fallen heroes. Beautifully manicured gardens and lots of lush greenery. So happy we decided to visit.”

“Perfect for kids and adults alike- lots of shades to have picnics in summer and beautiful little gardens and the location by the river is perfect. There's a statue of a horse that kids love to climb onto and cool spots to take photos at too. Lots of big trees. Kids playground had an open water pool...we enjoyed our picnic. Well maintained and enjoyed by all.”

“Visiting from the UK, this park is a hidden gem. Great for children and the river and plants are stunning. The War Horse Memorial is evocative and poignant. As a horse owner, I had tears. Visit this place after the Museum. It’s lovely!”

Overview
Parana Park runs along the Waikato River with views across the water and walking paths through lush greenery. Three shallow open water pools give young children a safe splash area. A War Horse statue — a memorial to horses lost in service — sits alongside a war plane and remembrance dedications. An aviary adds an extra point of interest. Ample parking, drinking water, and clean public toilets on site.
