1 / 3Timezone The Base Hamilton
📍 Northgate, Waikato
Timezone The Base is the Hamilton branch of the national Timezone arcade chain, in The Base shopping centre at Te Rapa. Arcade games, mini-bowling, ColourGrid floor challenge, Spin Zone, and birthday-party packages.
This place is great! It has a great vibe and atmosphere aswell as aura. There's a wide variety of machines to have fun with friends. The 2 player rhythm games they have are especially fun so much so that there's a gaping hole in my wallet or there would be whenever the next triple dollars comes around. The manager is very polite and friendly but also sometimes super scary when I had issues with the app he was very quick to help, they should give him a raise. While ive had a great time playing the maimai machine I find it sad that taiko only gives you 2 songs per credit even with 2 people and all the songs on the machine are shortened versions of the actual songs in the first place. I really wish this place had a chunithm machine like auckland tz pls let me know if you ever get a chuni cab here 🙏. A lot of people I spoke to say they should put a second maimai cabinet here, I think they're crazy. Sometimes there's a foul stench coming from the wangan players but not very often. Staff are super friendly and always willing to help. The crowd dj machine is cool and a fun idea however it doesn't have many songs I wish they had more. Oh also the customer support people were really nice on the phone even though they couldent help me. Did I mention the manager is a real nice guy? Also wth is a bonus fun pack and how do I turn them off?
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for kids and teens, especially birthday parties. Reviewers consistently name party hosts by name (Lena, Luce, Mikayla all mentioned) and describe thoughtful touches — one host drew a personalised birthday card based on the child's interests. The mini-bowling alongside the arcade gives mixed groups options.

“Amazing arcade with heaps of games and awesome prizes. There was an issue with my card here but the staff were amazing and super helpfull during the incident and helped me out to get the issue sorted quickly. It's not very busy so a nice arcade to relax and pkay some games with friends and family or do some bowling and just enjoy a day out. Best arcade in New Zealand that I've been to and 100% recommend you pay it a visit.”

“We had such a great experience with our party host, Lena! She was amazing with the kids — keeping them engaged, organised and having fun the whole time. What really stood out was how thoughtful she was. Lena asked my child what she liked and then took the time to draw it on a birthday card — and the drawing was beautiful. You could really feel the care and effort she put into making the party special. Thank you so much, Lena!”
