1 / 3Treetop Walk & Zipline
đ Hokitika, West Coast
Best for kids who like heights and grandparents who want an easy loop. A 1.2 km steel walkway through the rimu canopy with a 47 metre tower, a dual zipline for anyone over 30 kg, and a cafe. Pram and wheelchair friendly.
We did the walk in the heavy rain, this made the whole experience different! It was like being in a rain forest. The team in the gift shop were excellent and had great customer service, even opening the door for us. The facilities were well thought out and nothing was skipped. We did also call them the morning off and their phone manner was great. This was a great activity rain or shine and the staff just made the whole experience better! We took home from the gift shop some kiwis for our cats, earrings for mum and some fridge magnets. đ
đ Family Action Verdict
A rare treetop walk that works for a pram and a grandparent at the same time, and the tower gives older kids a genuine wobble. Children from about 30 kg can take the zipline with an adult racing alongside; lighter ones watch from the tower. It runs in rain, and the forest is better wet, so do not cancel for weather. Allow an hour.

âWoo hoo!!! Loved the West Coast Tree Top and Zipline activity, including lunch at their cafe. Great tasty meals and service with a smile. Tree top WALK was well signposted and good exercise for each of us, both having knee and hip joint issues. We found all aspects of the activity to be very professionally run, offering high level of service and knowledge. We loved the high level of safety checks prior to doing the Zipline. At 73 & 79 yrs, it was exhilarating!! Just the best! We loved it!!!â

âWas recommended by a colleague to visit here - definitely worth visiting if passing through the West Coast. The walkways are a lot higher than you expect and the view is extraordinary.â

Overview
Fifteen minutes south of Hokitika beside Lake Mahinapua, the West Coast Treetop Walk lifts you 20 metres into the rimu canopy on a 1.2 kilometre steel walkway, with a cantilever out over the lake and a 47 metre tower for views to the Alps and the Tasman. The loop is flat, self-guided and wheelchair friendly, so prams roll around it easily. The tower doubles as the launch for a dual zipline that races two people side by side back to the forest floor. A cafe and shop sit at the entrance.
