The Westland Industrial Heritage Park is absolutely incredible!! This is a great place to visit for all ages! They do an amazing job at showcasing the industrial era of Hokitika! The park is run by a group of very committed volunteers who have a passion for this type of thing. There is even a small steam train that usually runs on the days that the park is open! Can highly recommend to pay a visit!

A lovely, unhurried hour or two for engine-mad kids, and one of the cheapest outings on the Coast. Plan around its two open days, bring coins for the train and the donation box, and let the volunteers show you around; they are the best part. Toddlers are as happy here as ten-year-olds.

âVery interesting and fun for both kids and adults! We absolutely LOVED the train rides! Only 2$ per ride or less if you buy 10 rides 𤊠our 2-year old fell in love with the small and realistic locomotives! The big engines movie and the many fire trucks were also favorites. Such lovely people who volunteer also!â

Overview
Westland Industrial Heritage Park has been built since 1999 by Hokitika volunteers on Brian Waugh Lane, a short drive from the town centre. The Big Engine Shed runs restored industrial machines with sound and light, and around it sit fire engines, sawmilling and mining gear, steam and horse-drawn vehicles and historic boats. The draw for children is the Mudfish Bush Railway, a miniature train looping through native bush, cheap per ride. Entry is by donation and it opens two days a week.
