1 / 3Westland Recreation Centre
đ Greymouth, West Coast
Best for a rainy West Coast afternoon with kids of mixed ages. Greymouth's council recreation centre has a lap pool, shallow kids' pools, hydroslides, a spa and sauna, plus a gym and sports stadium under the same roof.
My son takes private swimming lessons here, all the staff are great, and the pools are amazing, awsome to see a spa pool and sauna too. The hidroslides are a hit with the tamaiki.
đ Family Action Verdict
The reliable wet-day answer in Greymouth: toddlers get shallow pools, primary kids get the hydroslides, and you get a sauna. Under-fives cannot ride the slides and five to seven year olds need a caregiver on the slide with them, so plan who goes with whom. Do not build the visit around the spa; it is a warm shallow pool.

âStopped in for a lap swim. Inexpensive ($3 US Senior rate). Nice pool and several lanes were free on this Saturday afternoon. Warm shower was a bonus!â

âThe pools are pretty good. Everything you need in a pool. I like the spa, the sauna, and the line pool. They are good for self care.â

Overview
The Westland Recreation Centre on High Street is Greymouth's council-run pool complex. There is a lap pool with lanes kept free most of the day, shallow pools for small children, hydroslides that are the main draw for primary-age kids, and a spa and sauna for the grown-ups, with a gym and a multi-court stadium alongside. It opens early and closes late on weekdays. Reviews call the staff friendly and the place clean; the spa gets described as a shallow warm pool rather than a jetted soak.
