1 / 3Whanganui Tramways Museum
đ Whanganui, Manawatu-Wanganui
A small volunteer-run tram museum in Whanganui where kids can climb aboard and take a short ride on a working historic tram. Best folded into a bigger day out rather than the main event.
Such a fun and interesting piece of history that is still up and running. The track is a it short at the moment but hopefully will be extended one day and it will be even better than it already is. Lots of facts and the volunteers are all so lovely and friendly. Definitely would recommend going down for a visit
đ Family Action Verdict
This is a lovely little stop if your kids like trains, trams, or anything mechanical you can actually climb aboard. It is run by volunteers and the ride is short right now, so it is more of a quick, charming visit than a half-day outing - great to fold into other Whanganui plans rather than the main event.

âWe are lucky to see this master piece! It shows how much efforts the team put into them. People who loves classic or antique stuff would definitely love this one. Make sure to donate some coin to cheer up the team if you really love trams :)â

âGreat to go for a short ride and check out the other tram! Run by volunteers! A great piece of history to check out. Inside you can also check out the one that was used in king Kong!â

Overview
A little labour of love run by volunteers who clearly adore these old trams, and it shows in how happy they are to show the kids around. You get a short ride on a working historic tram (the track is modest for now) and can poke around the others parked inside, including one that featured in King Kong. It's a quick, charming stop rather than a half-day outing, so pair it with other Whanganui plans. Bring a coin for the donation box.
