Xcape
📍 Melling, Wellington
Xcape on Pharazyn Street, Melling, runs immersive escape rooms in Lower Hutt — Mutiny, Atlantis, Lost Tomb, Crown Jewels, Asylum, Art Heist among them. Higher production value than typical escape rooms, with hidden mechanisms rather than just padlocks.
Brilliant time! Four of us worked together to escape the Mutiny room. Difficulty was 9/10 according to website and, yes was challenging. However not much more so then the Art Heist room which was rated 7/10 difficulty. Maybe this time I had a brainier team??!!! Great puzzles, great set, and very accommodating staff (changed our room booking at very short notice, gave us the wee bit extra time we needed to finish). 10/10 would do again!
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for families with kids 10+, teens, and adults. Reviewers describe the rooms as well-suited to mixed-skill groups — multiple parents mention bringing 10-12-year-olds and finding the difficulty pitched right. Asylum is mentioned as the scariest theme; check in with younger kids before booking that one.

“Great experience to do with friends! The rooms are very immersive and has high production value compared to other escape rooms in Wellington. It has music that set the ambience and the puzzles have heaps of hidden mechanisms, not just padlocks. I’ve done some of their other rooms before but most recently did the Lost Tomb with some friends. Would go again!!”

“Awesome fun if you love solving puzzles in a team. Took my 12 year old for her birthday with friends. We did "Asylum" which was a good level of puzzle difficulty and the right level of scary too for her braver friends (some chose not to come). Would definitely return to do another room.”

“We did the Crown Jewels room as a family (two adults and a 10 year old) and it was amazing fun! I loved it and it was SUPER fun and the puzzles were really interesting. It was a great mix of difficult but achievable. Also the staff were really kind and helped make us feel comfortable.”
