Best for a wet Rotorua day with kids aged three to eight. Seven themed rooms of interactive projections and light installations in the town centre, open into the evening, with two sensory rooms small children love.

I visited 3Mirage and had a really good experience. The light installations are stunning and feel very immersive, especially with the changing colours and reflections all around you. It feels calm, creative, and almost magical as you walk through the spaces. Highly recommend. You will have to buy tickets to enter. Family package options also available. Too bad they only had discounts for locals and not for other people. Its around $40 for 1 adult. I really enjoyed taking my time inside β€” it’s great for photos and just soaking in the atmosphere. Well organised, visually impressive, and something a bit different. Definitely worth visiting if you enjoy light art and immersive experiences.

πŸ† Family Action Verdict

A gentle, visually stunning hour that suits pre-schoolers and early primary kids especially well, and an easy rainy-day rescue right in town. Adults will enjoy it too, and the photos are excellent. Heed the venue's warning about flashing lights if anyone in the family is photosensitive, and check their social media first, since the rooms change.

β€œAbsolutely amazing experience at 3 Mirage! The immersive rooms were beautifully designed, creative, and full of surprises. The lights, colours, animations, and music worked together so perfectly and made the whole experience feel magical from start to finish. Each room had its own atmosphere, and it was really fun to walk through, take photos, and enjoy the different visual effects. Everything was well organised, clean, and easy to enjoy. It is such a unique attraction in Rotorua and definitely worth visiting. Highly recommend 3 Mirage to families, couples, friends, or anyone looking for something fun and different to do. We would love to come back again!”

β€œβββββ Great place for kids! We had a blast. Took the little ones to 3mirage today, and it was a fantastic experience! The place is very clean and well-maintained, which is always my top concern. There are plenty of activities suitable for kids aged 3-8. My child absolutely loved the last room and didn’t want to leave. The staff were friendly and attentive. It’s a perfect spot to let the kids burn off some energy in a safe environment. We’ll definitely be back!”

Overview

3Mirage on Arawa Street in central Rotorua is the town's first walk-through digital art experience: seven themed rooms of projections, light installations and reactive floors that shift as you move, from a cloud-filled dreamscape through cosmic skies to a glowing forest. It is entirely indoors and open into the evening, which makes it a favourite on the region's many wet days, and the themes rotate over time. Families single out the two sensory rooms as the ones small children get most out of.
