Best for families who want a warm soak rather than a swim workout. The Family Pools at Polynesian Spa pair a lifeguarded freshwater pool with a toddler section and small hydroslide with two mineral hot pools for the grown-ups.

We visited the Polynesian Spa and had a fantastic, relaxing experience. We chose the Pavilion package, and it was definitely worth it. The entire facility was clean, well maintained, and had a peaceful atmosphere. The highlight for me was the range of mineral pools. Soaking in the warm mineral water completely relaxed my body, and I walked out feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. The only small downside was the locker system, where you pay $9.5 to use a locker. Once you insert the coin you can use the locker only once. It wasn’t a major issue, just a slight inconvenience. Overall, it was a wonderful and calming experience, and I would happily recommend the Polynesian Spa to anyone visiting Rotorua. It’s the perfect place to unwind, recharge, and leave feeling both physically and mentally refreshed.

πŸ† Family Action Verdict

A relaxing lakeside soak that works with a baby or toddler in tow, thanks to the warm freshwater pool with its shallow end and the seated mineral pools beside it. Bigger kids get the hydroslide but not a big swim. Under-eights must be actively supervised in the water, under-fives need swim nappies, and the adult-only Pavilion pools are off limits.

ℹ️ What to Know Before You Go

πŸ’‘Book the Family Pools, not the Pavilion or Deluxe pools: children are only allowed in the family area
⏰Under-fives must wear an approved swim nappy under their togs; they sell them on site
🎟️Children under 12 need a caregiver with them, and under-eights must be actively supervised in the water
πŸš—Free storage tubs are provided but secure lockers cost extra, so leave valuables in the car

β€œWe had a fantastic experience at Polynesian Spa and would absolutely recommend it to families visiting Rotorua. We took our 10 month old with us and spent most of our time in the 36Β°C and 38Β°C pools, which were perfect for him. The 40Β°C and 41Β°C pools were a bit too hot for the little one, but they were incredible for the adults. The acidic pool in particular was amazing, and after about an hour and a half soaking, my arthritic knees felt the best they have in a long time. The whole place was relaxing, clean, and well set up. Just make sure you drink plenty of water while you’re there, and note that they don’t allow floaties for infants or young children in the pools. A really enjoyable experience for the whole family.”

β€œThis venue was on our doorstep so couldn't resist. In at 9am and was so quiet. Very relaxing and chilled as you would expect. Nice views over lake. Everywhere clean and friendly staff. Would definitely use this a lot of I lived here. Talked to some locals who have a reasonable monthly membership.”

β€œHad some well needed R&R in the private lake view pools. Would highly recommend the private pools. Friendly and helpful staff, plus free ice cream or juice with some of the packages.”

Overview

Polynesian Spa sits on the Rotorua lakefront and is best known as an adults' retreat, but its separate Family Pools area is built for kids. A large freshwater pool kept comfortably warm has a shallow toddler end, a deeper section and a small hydroslide, and beside it two Rachel Spring alkaline mineral pools, each shallow enough for seated soaking, let parents relax within arm's reach. Lifeguards are on duty, there are two family changing rooms, and the cafe does family-friendly food.
