Rotorua Skate Park

Best for confident skaters who know what to expect. Rotorua's central skatepark at Sheaf Park has a concrete mini-ramp, a metal mini-ramp, ledges, rails, steps and quarters, but it is worn, and a new park is planned at Kuirau Park.

Would have been 5 star but bit neglected. Skate ramp decks holes in and planks put over. Kids can seriously injure themselves.

🏆 Family Action Verdict

Fine for a competent teenager who wants a quick session in town, but not a place to take a beginner or a young child on a scooter without checking the ramps first. Walk the park before they ride, look at the deck surfaces, and insist on a helmet. If you are in Rotorua in a year or two, the new Kuirau Park facility should be the better option.

â„šī¸ What to Know Before You Go

💡Check ramp decks for holes and loose planks before anyone rides
⏰Helmets and pads are essential here: the surfaces are worn
đŸŽŸī¸Better suited to experienced skaters than beginners or small kids on scooters
🚗It is unfenced, unsupervised and open all hours, so daylight visits are wiser

Overview

Rotorua Skate Park sits in Sheaf Park on the corner of Ranolf and Amohau Streets near the city centre. It is an older, street-style setup: a concrete mini-ramp, a metal mini-ramp, two driveways with ledges, round rails, a set of steps, quarter pipes and banks. It is free and open all hours. Reviews are lukewarm, and the specific complaint is maintenance: holes in ramp decks patched with planks. The council has confirmed a new multisport skatepark at Kuirau Park, with ground works under way.
